Flat Tires, Kindness, and David Ortiz

So work today was interesting as always.  It rained most of the day, so we sort of had to be on our feet all day trying to find things for the kids to do.  My campers this week have been a bit OOC so today was certainly not helpful.  After camp ended, I helped lead the campers up to the pool for aftercare, told Fender we should go to Taco Bell, but changed out minds to Zaxby’s and I headed for my car.

I got in my car and everything seemed fine.  I skipped one of the speed bumps (I HATE speed bumps) and left the J.  Half a block away, I hear a loud plop, plop, and from that I knew I had a flat (I tried to accelerate and couldn’t, which was a pretty clear indicator.  I maneuvered the car carefully into the turn lane far enough away from the light to not bug people, put on my caution lights, and called AAA, my dad, and my mom.  AAA said they’d have someone there with in 30-45 minutes, but the person ended up showing up in about 15.  He looked at the other front tire and showed me how bald the tire was and let me know the other one was leaking too and called a tow truck.  I was kind of upset, but at least I was safe.  I waited a while for the tow truck and my dad came in his car to come sit with me.  Unlike my dad had guessed, the tow truck took around the time they estimated, not more.  The man was very friendly as he put my car up on his truck.  Watching him do it was pretty cool, but that is not what this is about.

The whole time I waited, people who I knew and didn’t stopped, asking if there was anything they could do for me.  I was offered rides from probably two dozen people.  I saw parents and campers leave the JCC offering me rides along with people who I didn’t even know offering to let me use their cell phones.  As much as I don’t enjoy having a flat tire or having to sit on the side of the road, I had a relatively positive experience.  I saw the best that is in humanity, where people are caring and only want to help, not harm.  I’m glad to know that there are people out there who want to help others, and this truly helps me feel better about the world I am living in today.

So today a report came out saying that David Ortiz did steroids and I have to ask, who didn’t know this?  I don’t want to hurt anyone’s feelings, but Big Papi is not hitting this year and players don’t drop off like he did in one year unless there is something going on.  The number of players being found on steroids really disappoints me.  The era that I will always remember will be the steroids era which is really sad, but the good news is that none of my favorite players have been caught on them (yet).  Jeter, Rivera, and Posada as of now are all clean.
