CofC Basketball, the SGA Website, and Beyond

So yesterday, in celebration of a great first semester, SGA Executive Board had a nice dinner at Aromas.  The food was good, the service was good, and the prices were pretty low.  I was impressed with how cheap everything was.  It was nice to spend some time with most of the board (Dan was already at the game because he is in Pep Band and Katie was in Charlotte) and really be happy about all of our accomplishments.  It was sad on the same measure, because Shea will be going to abroad next semester.

After that was over, me and Will moved his car and we went to the CofC Game.  It was already halftime and we were down by 3 points at halftime.  I was pretty confident we could win and we did.  The battle on the boards as always was pretty important, but more than anything, ball handling was the real difference maker.  Georgia State was running a full court version of the trap that we run, a staple from the defenses of Bobby Cremins’s Georgia Tech teams.  We were lucky to have good ball handling from Andrew Goudelock, Tony White Jr, and Donvon Monroe.  Willis Hall came in late in the game and was instrumental in breaking the full court press on a team that had some difficulty matching up against him.  Jeremy Simmons was a beast, bringing down 13 rebounds and 5 shots as well as 10 points.  Simmons has really stepped up his game in the absence of Antwaine Wiggins, averaging just under a double double with 14.3 points a game and 9.7 rebounds.  We are 2-3 so far this year, but I am confident that we have a shot this year in being a real force in the Southern Conference.

Work on a revamped SGA Website has just begun.  I have a general idea of what I want the page to look like, but it is going to take some work.  At an institution like the College, it is always a challenge in making decisions when things like the Brand Manual must be kept in consideration throughout the whole process.  We want the site to be user friendly, external, and overall, an excellent for all students whether they are active in Student Organizations, Student Life, or any other activities.  In general, the SGA website is not in a state in which it serves the Student the best it can, so we are hoping to reinvent it for the students.  If you have any specific suggestions, let us know so we can make sure your ideas are considered or even implemented.  The SGA Website can be found at www.cofc.edu/sga.  I want your input to see what exactly to do to make it better and so does all of SGA.

Peace

Ross
