{"id":411,"date":"2009-08-06T21:57:45","date_gmt":"2009-08-07T02:57:45","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/rosskressel.wordpress.com\/?p=411"},"modified":"2009-08-06T21:57:45","modified_gmt":"2009-08-07T02:57:45","slug":"my-love-for-the-city","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"http:\/\/rosskressel.com\/blog\/2009\/08\/06\/my-love-for-the-city\/","title":{"rendered":"My Love for the City"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Now for those of you who don&#8217;t know me well, I grew up in a small town in New Jersey that was a rural suburb of New York City.\u00a0 My love for New York City was one I can&#8217;t begin to describe.\u00a0 My memories of the city are ones that will never leave me.\u00a0 I found my love for another city last year during my freshman year at CofC.\u00a0 The summer has really made me miss it.\u00a0 I missed it more than anything today when I was listening to one of my favorite comedians, Steven Wright, because he said,<\/p>\n<blockquote><p>Everywhere is walking distance if you have the time.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>Now as funny as it was to hear, it reminded me how much I miss Charleston.\u00a0 There is something about city life to me that I can really describe well.\u00a0 I guess part of it is the fact that in Downtown I NEVER need a car.\u00a0 Anytime I want to get anywhere in East Cobb I have to jump in the car, drive a couple miles, possibly pick up other people, get there and drive back.\u00a0 In Charleston things are so much simpler with the sidewalks as our roads and our carpool lanes.\u00a0 I guess what I am saying is that suburban sprawl is getting to me.\u00a0 I look at the streets of East Cobb and wonder who zoned this place.\u00a0 The zoning wastes so much space, but I guess that is the way the mothers and fathers that raise their children in suburbia want it.\u00a0 A place where things are not close together or convenient, but a place that is &#8220;comfortable&#8221;.\u00a0 I wish things were real walking distance, because I don&#8217;t have the time nor energy to walk to work.\u00a0 I guess maybe I&#8217;m a city boy.<\/p>\n<blockquote><\/blockquote>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Now for those of you who don&#8217;t know me well, I grew up in a small town in New Jersey that was a rural suburb of New York City.\u00a0 My love for New York City was one I can&#8217;t begin to describe.\u00a0 My memories of the city are ones that will never leave me.\u00a0 I [&hellip;]<\/p>\n","protected":false},"author":1,"featured_media":0,"comment_status":"open","ping_status":"open","sticky":false,"template":"","format":"standard","meta":{"spay_email":""},"categories":[1],"tags":[],"jetpack_featured_media_url":"","_links":{"self":[{"href":"http:\/\/rosskressel.com\/blog\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/posts\/411"}],"collection":[{"href":"http:\/\/rosskressel.com\/blog\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/posts"}],"about":[{"href":"http:\/\/rosskressel.com\/blog\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/types\/post"}],"author":[{"embeddable":true,"href":"http:\/\/rosskressel.com\/blog\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/users\/1"}],"replies":[{"embeddable":true,"href":"http:\/\/rosskressel.com\/blog\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/comments?post=411"}],"version-history":[{"count":0,"href":"http:\/\/rosskressel.com\/blog\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/posts\/411\/revisions"}],"wp:attachment":[{"href":"http:\/\/rosskressel.com\/blog\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/media?parent=411"}],"wp:term":[{"taxonomy":"category","embeddable":true,"href":"http:\/\/rosskressel.com\/blog\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/categories?post=411"},{"taxonomy":"post_tag","embeddable":true,"href":"http:\/\/rosskressel.com\/blog\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/tags?post=411"}],"curies":[{"name":"wp","href":"https:\/\/api.w.org\/{rel}","templated":true}]}}
