{"id":175,"date":"2009-04-21T15:46:19","date_gmt":"2009-04-22T02:46:19","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/rosskressel.wordpress.com\/?p=175"},"modified":"2009-04-21T15:46:19","modified_gmt":"2009-04-22T02:46:19","slug":"being-sworn-in","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"http:\/\/rosskressel.com\/blog\/2009\/04\/21\/being-sworn-in\/","title":{"rendered":"Being Sworn In"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>So the last couple days have been pretty crazy.\u00a0 Monday me and Dan (Mackin) signed up for the waiting list for Kelly House.\u00a0 I had my geology lab final and a presentation for Poli Sci 250.\u00a0 We scrambled to put together the budget bills today for SGA.\u00a0 Derek attempted to pass a huge bill completely changing the election bylaws, but was unable to gain any support to pass them.\u00a0 There is no argument that they need to change, but his approach was much like the statement Andrew Edahl made that equated the bill to a hammer when a precision instrument was needed for this delicate procedure.<\/p>\n<p>Anyways, I was sworn in today and I can proudly say I was elected by the College of Charleston as the Student Body Secretary along with a group of Executive Council members who I can proudly say will do more than impress you.\u00a0 The four of us want to make your college experience the best it can be, and I think our main goal for next year is to work to make the College of Charleston &#8220;Harvard of the South&#8221;.\u00a0 As always, I want to hear from the students and understand better what exactly you want.\u00a0 Please let me know if you have any specific suggestions.\u00a0 Here is a list of things I hope to work on next year:<\/p>\n<ol>\n<li>24 hour access to a study area of some sort\n<p>There has been outcry from the students for a place for students to be able to go and study that is safe and on campus for 24 hours a day, 7 days a week.\u00a0 Several locations seem to be on the radar.\u00a0 Originally we had hoped to keep Addlestone Library open 24 hours a day, but this doesn&#8217;t seem to be possible, so we are pushing for other possibilities such as Stern Center and the lobby area of the Ed Center.<\/li>\n<li>Refunding PASCAL\n<p>In case you haven&#8217;t heard, the budget for the PASCAL system was cut even before other budgets were cut around the state by 90%.\u00a0 PASCAL is made up of two main elements to the best of my knowledge, a loan system for books as well as for various private search engines like Academic Search Premier.\u00a0 With so little funding, PASCAL could be gone if we don&#8217;t work hard to save it.<\/li>\n<li>Institutional Non-Discrimination Statement\n<p>Despite being one of the most liberal colleges in the state of South Carolina, the College of Charleston is one of the only state institutions that does not include sexual orientation in its non-discrimination statement.\u00a0 I hope to work to change this to include this.<\/p>\n<p>These are the issues I hope to work on, but from my position as Secretary, I hope to be able to influence college policy makers so that the college reflects the wants and needs of the student body as a whole.\u00a0 As always, feel free to contact me, my door is always open, my phone is on, and I check my email way more than I should.<\/p>\n<p>Ross<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>So the last couple days have been pretty crazy.\u00a0 Monday me and Dan (Mackin) signed up for the waiting list for Kelly House.\u00a0 I had my geology lab final and a presentation for Poli Sci 250.\u00a0 We scrambled to put together the budget bills today for SGA.\u00a0 Derek attempted to pass a huge bill completely [&hellip;]<\/p>\n","protected":false},"author":1,"featured_media":0,"comment_status":"open","ping_status":"open","sticky":false,"template":"","format":"standard","meta":{"spay_email":""},"categories":[1],"tags":[],"jetpack_featured_media_url":"","_links":{"self":[{"href":"http:\/\/rosskressel.com\/blog\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/posts\/175"}],"collection":[{"href":"http:\/\/rosskressel.com\/blog\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/posts"}],"about":[{"href":"http:\/\/rosskressel.com\/blog\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/types\/post"}],"author":[{"embeddable":true,"href":"http:\/\/rosskressel.com\/blog\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/users\/1"}],"replies":[{"embeddable":true,"href":"http:\/\/rosskressel.com\/blog\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/comments?post=175"}],"version-history":[{"count":0,"href":"http:\/\/rosskressel.com\/blog\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/posts\/175\/revisions"}],"wp:attachment":[{"href":"http:\/\/rosskressel.com\/blog\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/media?parent=175"}],"wp:term":[{"taxonomy":"category","embeddable":true,"href":"http:\/\/rosskressel.com\/blog\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/categories?post=175"},{"taxonomy":"post_tag","embeddable":true,"href":"http:\/\/rosskressel.com\/blog\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/tags?post=175"}],"curies":[{"name":"wp","href":"https:\/\/api.w.org\/{rel}","templated":true}]}}
