{"id":1096,"date":"2017-03-23T15:31:37","date_gmt":"2017-03-23T19:31:37","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/rosskressel.com\/?p=1096"},"modified":"2017-03-23T15:31:37","modified_gmt":"2017-03-23T19:31:37","slug":"what-im-reading-week-of-32017","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"http:\/\/rosskressel.com\/blog\/2017\/03\/23\/what-im-reading-week-of-32017\/","title":{"rendered":"What I&#8217;m Reading: Week of 3\/20\/17"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>I&#8217;m going to try to post something weekly about what I&#8217;ve been reading, just because I like to share and you know what they say, sharing is caring.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<ol>\n<li>You might have see my two entries on Medium about blockchain (<a href=\"https:\/\/medium.com\/@rosskressel\/is-blockchain-the-future-317623044ba3#.wecoitb43\">generally on blockchain<\/a>\u00a0and<a href=\"https:\/\/medium.com\/@rosskressel\/blockchain-and-healthcare-harnessing-ehr-for-better-clinical-and-research-outcomes-1ba620fedc69#.qdto8gx5l\"> then applications of blockchain to connect EHR systems<\/a>). \u00a0Back in February, McKinsey published a piece on applying the <a href=\"http:\/\/www.mckinsey.com\/business-functions\/digital-mckinsey\/our-insights\/using-blockchain-to-improve-data-management-in-the-public-sector\">blockchain to public section data management<\/a>. \u00a0I think it is a really good read and recommend it to those looking for a good read.<\/li>\n<li>The New York Times published a story on how <a href=\"https:\/\/www.nytimes.com\/2017\/03\/23\/automobiles\/wheels\/self-driving-cars-elderly.html?rref=collection%2Fsectioncollection%2Ftechnology\">self-driving cars<\/a> could really benefit those who can&#8217;t drive, especially the elderly who sometimes lose their licenses. \u00a0This is one of the big benefits I really hadn&#8217;t considered and expands the market for who cars are for, which I think is pretty neat. \u00a0 Wish I had thought about this before publishing my story &#8220;<a href=\"https:\/\/medium.com\/@rosskressel\/cars-of-tomorrow-91e93a987556#.tyuljvid5\">Cars of the Future<\/a>&#8221; on Medium, but that&#8217;s life.<\/li>\n<li><a href=\"https:\/\/www.washingtonpost.com\/news\/on-leadership\/wp\/2017\/03\/22\/howard-schultz-hands-the-keys-to-his-successor-in-an-emotional-investor-meeting\/?utm_term=.13423bc6b9b2\">Starbucks <\/a>CEO Howard Schultz handed the reins of Starbucks over to his successor and COO, Kevin Johnson. \u00a0Should be interesting to see what kind of things change with Schultz taking a less active role.<\/li>\n<li><a href=\"http:\/\/www.google.com\/url?q=http%3A%2F%2Fwww.espn.com%2Fespn%2Ffeature%2Fstory%2F_%2Fpage%2Fpresents18931717%2Fthe-nba-secret-addiction&amp;sa=D&amp;sntz=1&amp;usg=AFQjCNHJBbPTB4TSmbc7snHY7K2aD-z15A\">ESPN Magazine\u00a0<\/a>\u00a0published a piece about a new addiction that is hitting locker rooms all around the NBA and it isn&#8217;t what you expect. \u00a0My friends got a chuckle out of this story and I think you will too.<\/li>\n<li>Scientists from Harvard Medical School are having success with a drug that reserves aging in the DNA of mice. \u00a0They&#8217;ve published their findings in the journal <a href=\"http:\/\/science.sciencemag.org\/content\/355\/6331\/1312\">Science<\/a>, but there is a more layman friendly story about this in <a href=\"http:\/\/time.com\/4711023\/how-to-keep-your-dna-from-aging\/?xid=homepage\">Time Magazine<\/a>.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>I&#8217;m going to try to post something weekly about what I&#8217;ve been reading, just because I like to share and you know what they say, sharing is caring. &nbsp;
